Theoretical Example 1
"My paintings are process driven and become a kine of meditation that allows me to tap into my connection to the world around me. Words, rhythms, images, sound - experiences that evoke a visceral response in me become the source, the reservoir that i draw from when i paint. Starting with random marks and responding to them intuitively, my paintings are built up in layers that go through many changes, like thoughts morphing across the surface, developing depth. motion and a sense of history. A painting is not complete until i sense a certain of life or spirit. Ultimately, it is all about the process and physical act of creating: becoming the brush, responding to surface, the visceral feeling or engaging it, the discovery, the evolution of the painting as it changes. It becomes a dance, finding just the right balance between intention and intuition to bring the composition to a satisfying conclusion"
Kathy Blankley Roman - Contemporary Artist
Kathy Blankley Roman's philosophy is very similar to mine; my work is driven by my instinct, mainly my emotions. When I am preparing to paint I spend a lot of time looking and observing my environment, mind mapping how i feel at that moment. i do this so i can them pour those emotions out onto a canvas. I also follow my intuition for when my painting are finished. I listen to what my feelings and attitude to my work is telling me, which is definitely something I can see with in Kathy Blankley Roman works.
